ITINERARY

(Tour SW01) Self Drive Historic Albany & Southern Ocean - 3 Nights/4 Days


Accomodation: ALBANY for the whole stay (Your choice of accommodation in B&B, Motel, Hotel or Apartment)
Cost: From AU$531 pp including 5 Day Car rental, 4 Night Accommodation and Dolphin Cruise

Day 1:
Distance: 413 kms

Depart Perth in the morning. Travel along the Kwinana Freeway South towards Armadale. At Armadale take the Albany Highway through the country towns of Williams, Kojonup and to Mt Barker which has the best climate in the world for growing wine. From here take the picturesque drive through to the Porongurup Range that provides an awesome backdrop to a variety of wineries and finish your day in Albany.

  

 

Day 2:
Distance: 60 kms

Enjoy the day visiting the historic town of Albany and its dramatic coastline. Among the many tourists sites are Mt. Melville and Mt. Clarence where you will enjoy a spectacular view over Royal Princess Harbour and the City of Albany. Don't forget to drop by the Whaleworld Museum, the old whaling station. Also, visit the replica of the “Brigg Amity” situated on the Harbour Front. Frenchman Bay and the Torndirrup National Park, The Gap, Natural Bridge and Albany Wind Farm are also a must. Stop at Strawberry Hill, the first farm in Albany, situated in the town. Finally, head to Emu Point, Oyster Harbour and Middleton Beach.

  

 

Day 3:
Distance: 129 kms (one way)

Depart for Denmark and Walpole in the morning. Take a wilderness eco-cruise in the Walpole Nornalup Wilderness Area (Tour departs daily at 1000am). Visit the Valley of the Giants or “Tree Top Walk” situated in the Walpole-Nornalup National Park which is home to the Giant Karri and Tingle trees.

On your return journey to Albany make time for a few stops to view the ocean especially at Peaceful Bay and Greens Pool, then head to the beautiful township of Denmark.

  

 

Day 4:
Distance: 413 kms

Make your return journey to Perth travelling through the town of Mt. Barker, Kojonup (visit the Kodja Place and immerse yourself in the town history) and then on to Williams, Armadale, and finally Perth.

(Tour SW02) Self Drive South West Forests & Countryside - 4 Nights/5 Days

Day 1:
Distance: 226 kms
Accomodation: Bridgetown

Depart in the morning, travelling on the Kwinana Freeway south to Bunbury. At Bunbury, capital of the South West, visit the Dolphin Discovery Centre. Enjoy a cruise at Koombana Bay and meet with the friendly dolphins. (Tour departs daily at 1100 am)

Take the South West Highway travelling through the Orchard Country towns of Donnybrook, best known for its apple and stone fruit, Balingup and to Bridgetown for your overnight accommodation.

  

 

Day 2:
Distance: 68 kms
Accomodation: Pemberton

Depart for Manjimup, capital of the South West forests & countryside. Experience Black Gold hunting at The Wine & Truffle Farm and then make your way down to Pemberton which lies nestled in a valley surrounded by impressive tall karri trees of the Gloucester National Park. Overnight accomodation is at Pemberton.

  

 

Day 3:
Distance: 139 kms
Accomodation: Margaret River

Morning at leisure in Pemberton to enjoy the many activities on offer such as climbing the Gloucester Tree, Tram ride through the forests, Trout Fishing, and the Woodcraft Museum. After a complete visit of the township depart for Margaret River. Overnight accommodation at Margaret River.

  

 

Day 4:
Distance: 188 kms
Accomodation: Margaret River or Bunker Bay

Drive on Bussell Highway to picturesque Augusta located at the mouth of the Blackwood River, only 9 kilometres from the geographic point where the Indian Ocean and the Southern Ocean meet. The Historic Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse sits on the tip of a spectacular peninsula where these oceans merge. Wildlife enthusiasts will love the opportunities to watch the Humpback and Southern Right whales as they migrate along the coast from June through to September.

  

 

Then, head on to Caves Road which runs along the coast between Augusta and Cape Naturaliste through the many wineries of the Margaret River region. Take time to visit one of the Limestone Caves (Jewel, Mammoth and Lake Caves) situated in the beautiful Boranup forest. Most of the wineries are open daily for wine tasting. Some famous wineries to mention are Leeuwin Estate, Voyager Estate, Vasse Felix and Cullen. Take a drive to Prevelly Park, Margaret River's World Championship Surfing Beach, to watch the surfers taking the giant waves

If time allows, continue on to Yallingup and Cape Naturaliste to visit the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse. Stay overnight in Margaret River or stay the night at Bunker Bay situated close to Cape Naturaliste.

Day 5:
Distance: 273 kms

Today, travel on Bussell Highway via the seaside resort of Busselton to view the world's longest wooden jetty, then towards Bunbury and Mandurah, where you make your return journey back to Perth.

Then head on to Vasse Highway, Stewart Road and Brockman Highway to Margaret River for your overnight accommodation.

  

 

Day 5:
Distance: kms
